SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT MEANS DAILY CARE FOR ENVIRONMENT
The World Environment Day for the Koullias group is the opportunity for management to summarize in one day, activities and actions for the environment that are daily implemented in the hotels. Thus, year after year, the project spreads beneficially in every direction and gives the opportunity for an event of celebration and information.
With the 2021 theme: "Reimagine. Recreate. Restore", the general manager Mrs. Eleni Bassi and her team, prepared a special experiential and interactive event. It was addressed to students of elementary school in Kos and focused on the ecosystem restoration. The environmentalist of Koullias hotels, played with the children the game of protection and restoration of the planet with actions for 10 years forward. Practices and measures taken by the hotels to reduce water consumption, energy and environmental protection were presented.
Children raised questions that impressed the participants for their concern and maturity towards environmental issues.The children had the opportunity to get acquainted with environmental initiatives through videos and live links to hotels.
1. Αromatics and herbs
The hotel chef showed the herbs and aromatics in the garden of the Atlantis hotel. They are used in the kitchen because they give the flavours and aromas in traditional recipes. They are part of the local culture, they support the health, they delight.
2. The raise of the Blue Flag eco-label is the reward for the hotel Atlantis commitment to the environment protection.
3. The vegetable garden at Kouros Palace supplies the kitchen with organic products as part of the company's strategy to cater to local fresh seasonal produce.  The short supply chain is basic for the sustainable development.4. The botanical garden of the Hippocratic Foundation of Kos, is an inexhaustible pharmacy that the great Hippocrates used and taught to the next generations. There are 246 plants used by the Father of Western Medicine, Hippocrates of Kos, for both healing and well-being. The Koulias group is a major sponsor of the Foundation and has undertaken the maintenance and care of the botanical garden. The aim is to contribute educationally and recreationally to the development and cultivation of children, their connection to the ecosystem as well as the strengthening of the cultural wealth and the sustainable identity of the island.
Those actions reflect the intention of the hotels in the long run. Quality service reflects the authentic Koa experience of the guests.
